Rewriting women's health: a content analysis of the Trump administration's revisions to womenshealth.gov (October 29, 2025)

October 29, 2025 — Changes made to womenshealth.gov in early 2025 rapidly reshaped the site around a specific political ideology. Evidence-based resources concerning maternal mortality and reproductive rights were removed, along with references to social inequalities and "gender" as a concept. Replacing them was new content promoting biological sex essentialism and restrictive definitions of womanhood that exclude transgender individuals.

The revised material increasingly portrays women as vulnerable subjects needing protection rather than as active participants in public health and personal decision-making. At the same time, pressing issues such as the nation’s high maternal death rate receive less emphasis while paternalistic rhetoric takes a more central role.

Taken together, these revisions prioritize patriarchal power and LGBTQ+ exclusion over the broader health and well-being of the population.
